Google’s doodle by a Japanese kid reminded me today is the day.

Where I live, it’s been summer for more than a couple of weeks.
Nobody is working in the yard.  No sound of yard tools.

I never really understand “an astronomical event that happens twice each year when the Sun’s apparent position in the sky reaches its northernmost or southernmost extremes.”

Solstice at Wiki:

One of the reason is that my husband  confuses me, saying that around here astronomical events are different from those in northern part of the US, since we live far too south. Maybe I got him wrong.
