Fallen device retrieved from Japan fast-breeder reactor

If it did not succeed, the result would have been much worse than Fukushima Daiichi.

It is a proto-type fast breeder reactor cooled by liquid sodium that catches fire in contact with air.

After previous accident (fire caused by sodium coolant leak) in 1995, the reactor had been shut down.

14 years later in 2010, they restarted the reactor. Soon after in August 2010 a 3.3 ton device fell into the reactor and could not be retrieved.

In February 2011, man in charge of the operation found dead, apparent suiside. It is reported there was a suide note, but it was not made public.

Monju is said one of most dangerous nuclear plants in Japan, along with Rokkasho reprocessing plant.

More on them later.
